Love & War

Currently I am reading Love & War. I started the book a few days ago and assumed I wouldn't really relate, because the authors were talking about marriages that were having issues. Of course I thought well we have only been married for a year and our marriage is pretty good. I still do believe that we have not had a lot of struggles yet, as a married couple, but this book started to open my eyes.

I was first reminded of how God created marriage and he sees it to be such an important thing. He cares so much about it. The Eldredges make it clear that God started the Bible and ended the Bible with married. Looking in Genesis we see that man was not meant to be alone so he made Eve and they were the first married couple. Then in Revelation, we see the Bridegroom coming for his bride. How awesome that this is something that was divinely orchestrated.

Something else I enjoyed from the Eldredges was... "Satan is a liar, 'the father of lies' (John 8:44), so utterly convincing that he deceived a glorious man and woman to betray God, whom they walked with every day. I think that we tend to dismiss Adam and Eve as the idiots who got us all into this mess in the first place. ...they were deceived. ...Even the best of us can be taken in." This rang true to me because I so often am blaming Eve for the mistake that she made, but she was deceived, as well all are. This is what Satan does to us all the time through out the day when we interact with co-workers, family, our spouses, etc. Those negative thoughts and expectations come from Satan and if we don't stand up against him in our marriages he will defeat us.

I look forward to continue my reading. I really encourage any married couple to read this book. I will say that I do not agree with it all, but they have some really valuable points.

"For the Son of Man came to seek and save what was lost" - Luke 19:10
